Who matters more; your clients... or your colleagues and competitors?

One thing that keeps coming up again and again and again in my current Doula Biz From Scratch cohort is that people aren't showing up and marketing like they know they should be. As far as I can tell, there are six main reasons why.

 

Right now I want to go over just one of the most common reasons, which is this:

 

Entrepreneurs aren't making posts/publishing their content because they think "This is common sense, everybody knows this."

 

I can bet ANYYYY amount of money that you’ve refrained from posting something because it seemed like a no-brainer, seemed like common sense. The information seemed "basic".

 

But that’s because you’re an expert. 👅

 

It’s "common sense" to you and your colleagues, but it's NOT common sense to your customers and the people you say you want to help. In fact, if your target customers knew everything you knew, there’d be no market for what you do.

 

But it just so happens that doulas and midwives ARE in high demand right now and that’s because there’s a huge gap in knowledge between what you know and what they know. And that's precisely WHY they want to hire you!

 

The people you want to serve aren’t experts like you are, and they don’t have 1/100th the information, wisdom, knowledge, or personal experiences that you do.

 

So, let go of the need to share “advanced” info (whatever the hell that means). This could actually turn people off and it may even make you seem like a jerk-off know-it-all. 🤣 

 

Just start simple and share the very basics. 

 

You’re not here to impress your colleagues or your professional peers with your marketing content, you’re here to connect with and serve your ideal clients, so keep THEM in mind when crafting your posts. They likely have a beginner's mind; you should cater to that.

 

Put one hand on your heart, breathe deep and write your ideal client a simple love letter… not a doctorial dissertation. 

 

Your priority is not to impress your clients with how smart you are... but to truly connect with them by expressing how much you care about them and also... to help them see that you truly understand them. 💖

 

BIG FAT TAKEAWAY: KEEP YOUR AMAZING CLIENTS + CUSTOMERS IN MIND WHEN CRAFTING CONTENT; NOT YOUR COMPETITORS OR COLLEAGUES.

 

Marketing will feel so much more easeful and lovely if you do.
